Robert Habeck, chair of the German Green Party (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) shared his vision for the future of the European Union on a recent episode of The Europe Desk.

Habeck addressed the political challenges the EU faces in the era of great power competition, and a changing global order. He discussed pathways to strengthen the EU internally, and to increase its capacity as a regional and global actor. Specifically, he emphasized how the EU can succeed domestically and play a leading role internationally in the fight against climate change, in managing the digital transformation of our economies, and in preserving and strengthening liberal democracy at home and abroad.

Recorded in the Riggs Library at Georgetown University on Friday, January 24, 2020, and co-sponsored by the BMW Center and Heinrich Böll Foundation.
